I’m excited about the new EMP release, version 4.4.4. It introduces two features that people have been asking for over a long time Stored Queries and Custom Widgets.

What is EMP?

The Engineered Monitoring Platform(EMP) is a project which arised from the need to have an easy to customize Monitoring & Dashboarding solution. Company specific needs can easily be implemented through extensions and therefore can be tailored to a lot of situations. With a flexible Role & permission management it allows to grant access in verious ways, from public dashboards that do not need any login down to sharing dashboards with specific users and groups.

New EMP release:

Stored Queries may seem like a slight improvement, but they change everything about how you work with data. Instead of rewriting the same SQL in different dashboards or widgets, you can now write a query once, save it, and use it wherever you need. You no longer have to copy and paste or try to remember which version is the latest. This is something I’ve wanted to add for nearly two years, and I finally had the chance to build it. You can find it under Tools and Queries. If it doesn’t appear in your account, your user role probably needs updated permissions, which can be adjusted easily by an admin.

Once a query is stored, it becomes available as a source in any dashboard. What makes this even more powerful is that you can now add parameters to your queries. This means users can interact with the data in a much simpler way. You just set up a parameter inside the query and then connect it to an input field like a number box or dropdown menu. The dashboard updates automatically based on the values the user selects. This makes everything more dynamic, flexible, and easier to use, especially for those who are not technically inclined.

You can also do more with your queries by setting default values for parameters, adding color formatting, and choosing how the data should look when it's displayed. With the new Custom Widgets feature, stored queries become fully interactive. You can sort the results, highlight important values with colors, and show the data in whatever format works best, like tables, panels, or cards.

One of the best parts is how much easier this makes everything to maintain. When you update a stored query, that update automatically applies everywhere the query is used. You don’t have to go through every dashboard to make the exact changeover. You fix it once, and it works everywhere. It’s simple, clean, and much more efficient.

Keep up the great work ! Happy Performance Engineering ! #StoredQueries #CustomWidgets #DashboardDesign. #EMP
